Adder Seeming to find it slightly harder than the other animals to keep the Oath, Adder used to tease the smaller creatures of the group, but the long journey to White Deer Park changed all the animals of Farthing Wood, including her. Indeed she was a great help to the Farthing animals more than once, for example, she it was who rid the Farthing animals of their blue fox enemy, Scarface, who posed a threat to them almost as soon as they entered the park.
Badger Badger is the closest friend of Fox and is a gentle, kind, and warm-hearted creature, giving many of the animals someone to turn to for comfort in times of trouble. He was also very fond of Mole, as he it was who carried Mole on his back on the way to White Deer Park. Badger lead the animals in Fox's absence on the journey while Fox was making his way back to them after being swept away down a river.
Bold Bold was the most confident, clever, daring, and consequently most boastful of Fox and Vixen's four offspring, and certainly lives up to his name. His independent and inquisitive nature lead him into leaving the reserve after getting into trouble with his father. Whilst outside the park he befriended Shadow the badger and Crow, and met Whisper the vixen, who later became his mate. However, when she became expectant, Whisper wished for her cubs to be born inside White Deer Park, and so Bold reluctantly agreed to lead her back there. But the journey took its toll on Bold, and by the time they arrived at the perimeter fence he was ill and exhausted, and so he later died.
Bounder A blue fox son of Scarface, born a generation before Ranger and killed by Adder in the feud.
Brat -
Bruno A rather dim-witted farm dog who encounters Fox and the animals during the journey to White Deer Park.
Bully The long-tailed leader of the rat colony which invaded White Deer Park. He and the other rats attempt to claim the park for themselves with the help of their rapidly increasing numbers, but are in the end overcome by the Farthing and park reserve animals.
Butcher Bird A red-backed shrike who kills the baby mice from the Farthing animal group. Also comes across Fox later, and tells him that the other animals have passed this way.
Cat The Warden's pet cat, who befriends Badger during the Farthing animals' first Winter at White Deer Park. Cat was mistakenly attacked by Kestrel while taking a message to the Farthing animals, but after attacking her back in revenge he seemed to remain on tolerable terms with the rest of them.
Charmer Fox and Vixen's surviving female cub. She fell in love with Scarface's son Ranger during the feud, and together they brought peace between the red and blue fox tribes through their union.
Cleo Weasel and Measly's mischievous female offspring. Always manages to get herself into all sorts of situations along with her twin brother, Fido, and befriends Piglet and Rollo.
Crow A loyal and helpful friend of Bold, who also befriends Shadow, Rollo and Whisper.
Dash The young hare female who is the closest friend of Plucky the fox. She is a very fast runner, and enjoys competing and racing with Plucky.
Dreamer Her name says it all. Dreamer was a female cub of Fox and Vixen who seemed to live in a world of her own and found it hard to concentrate on anything serious for very long, as her attention span was quite short. Dreamer was killed whilst still a cub during the feud, and although nobody actually saw it happening, the Farthing animals are all convinced that Scarface was her killer.
Fido The playful male offspring of Weasel and Measly. Always manages to get himself into all sorts of mischief along with his sister, Cleo.
Fox Cunning, noble, loyal and wise, Fox is the perfect leader for the Farthing animals on their journey to White Deer Park, and also after they arrive at the reserve. All the animals trust, respect, and look up to him. He met his mate, Vixen, on the way to White Deer Park, and has fathered four cubs of his own, one of which gave him his grandson, Plucky.
Friendly The surviving male offspring of Fox and Vixen. Friendly was suspicious of Ranger during the feud, and helped battle the rats and Trey later on.
Gnet -
Great White Stag The head of White Deer Park and leader of the white deer herd, a majestic animal who is well respected by all the park residents. He is the one to whom the animals go to sort out their disputes and problems after Fox.
Hares Hare is an enthusiastic member of the Farthing Wood community who can sometimes be a little bossy, particularly towards his cousin Rabbit and the rest of Rabbit's family. Sadly, Hare lost his mate during the feud after she was attacked and killed by Scarface. She was also an enthusiastic and loyal member of the Farthing Wood community, and was always full of encouragement for the other animals in their times of trouble.
Hedgehogs Hedgehog and his mate almost made it to White Deer Park, but tragically they were both killed during the motorway crossing in the later stages of the journey.
Hollow A male owl who encountered the Farthing Owl and later became her mate. At first when she approached him she was broken-hearted to learn that he didn't want anything to do with her, but in the end he did choose Owl after deciding that actually he did have feelings for her.
Horse A retired fox-hunt horse who encounters Fox on his way back to the other Farthing animals during the journey, and warns him of the hunt.
Hurkle Shadow's mate, a friendly and kind-hearted badger who always tries to find the least violent solution to all problems.
Kestrel Kestrel's sharp, keen eyesight was a great help to the animals, both during the journey and after their arrival at White Deer Park. She is loyal to Fox and the other animals, and is always willing to help.
Lady-Blue Scarface's mate. Although her animosity with the Farthing animals portrays her as quite a cold-hearted character, she was nonetheless very loyal to her mate and truly did love him. She was wounded by Vixen in a fight, and has lost the top of her ear as a result. She is the mother of Ranger and Bounder, and also of Scarface's other unmentioned offspring.
Lerd The leader of the white deer herd after Trey, Lerd helped the Farthing animals during the rat invasion and lead the deer into the battle with the rats.
Measly The somewhat gullible and rather less intelligent mate of Weasel. Despite his apparent uninterest in his mate during the earlier stages of the feud, he does really love her, but she doesn't always make it clear whether she cares for him back.
Mice The fieldmice travelled with the other animals to the park from Farthing Wood and made it to their destination, despite getting a rather hard time from Adder and sometimes Weasel aswell. Unfortunately however, the female mouse was mistakenly killed by a later distraught Kestrel, and Fieldmouse seemed very reluctant to let her live it down.
Mole Mole was a close friend of Badger after the latter carried him on his back during the journey to White Deer Park. A sweet little creature who can be quite greedy when it comes to his favourite meal of earthworms, Mole is extremely loyal to all his friends and will easily become worried if he has reason to believe that one of them may be in danger. During the Farthing animals' first Winter at White Deer Park, Mole met a young female mole who became his mate. Sadly, Mole died of the cold that same Winter, but he and his mate's two offspring, one male called Mossy and an unnamed female, were born the following Spring.
Mossy The son of the Farthing Wood Mole. Mossy was mistaken for his father by Badger, but agreed to pretend to be Mole for Badger's sake, for Badger was getting old now. In the end Mossy became very attached to Badger and was very upset when Badger died of old age during the feud.
